Beginning Investor Review
Beginning investors should search “The Golden Rule of Investing” on this blog. Saving is the key toward building a long-term and growing portfolio. The next step is to develop a portfolio plan and populate the portfolio with either index funds or a special type of index investment, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Do a search for ETF if you are not sure what these index vehicles are all about.
Make sure you are invested in a broad array of asset classes and read the research showing the importance of skewing a portfolio toward the value side of the investing spectrum. Most of the research was provided back in February. Or do a search for Ibbotson, Fama, French, asset allocation, or passive investing. Those searches will bring up a lot of material that you will find useful in the process of portfolio planning.
The three portfolios I am developing are now only available over on the pay-to-read side of the blog, known as Premium Content. The spreadsheets for these portfolios is available for paying clients. The spreadsheet we use is the Thomas/Lalla/Herr spreadsheet, named after the three developers.
