Sir John Templeton
John Templeton died this week at the age of 95. Since he was one of my financial heroes I thought it appropriate to say a few words about an amazing investor and a wonderful man. Those of you who were fortunate to see him in a rare interview could not help but be impressed by the calm and positive spirit Mr. Templeton conveyed to listeners.
He was considered by some as one of the greatest global investors of all time. While many know him for his investing prowess, he is also known for his philanthropic work, particularly the Templeton Prize, or the “Nobel Prize of Religion.” He established the Templeton Foundation, identifying itself as “a philanthropic catalyst for research and discoveries relating to what scientists and philosophers call the Big Questions. We support work at the world’s top universities in such fields as theoretical physics, evolutionary biology, cognitive science, cosmology, and social science relating to love, forgiveness, creativity, purpose, and the nature and origin of religious belief.” He is not without his critics, as you will see if you click on the included link.
Sir John Templeton is certainly one of those people who made a difference and left the world a better place.
