Portfolio Performance Data Table
Below is a data table with updates for a number of portfolios tracked using the TLH spreadsheet. Next week all portfolios should be updated once the broker statements are available. The spreadsheet is now set up to calculate the Information Ratio (IR), the far right column of the spreadsheet. This value is one of the most important ratios when it comes to portfolio management as it tells the viewer if the manager is adding value to the portfolio and at what risk. The higher the number the better.
All but two of the portfolios are performing better than the VTSMX benchmark. Several portfolios are lagging the ITA Index and that is due to asset classes out of balance. In several cases, emerging markets was not fully populated when that asset class had a great run.

We also constructed our own Rat-a-Tat-Tat noise maker. This device consisted of notching the edges of the largest empty wooden thread spool we could find. Instead of a nice round circle, the edges looked like teeth or gear cogs. A wooden dowel rod was inserted into the center of the spool and string was wrapped around the spool.
